Tattoo Machines For Sale
For God's sake, don't call it a gun. The tattoo machine was first patented in the 1890s by a man named Samuel O'Reilly, with a few other similar patents existing before hand by the likes of Thomas Edison. While his weren't meant to drive ink into the skin, they were almost identical, and Thomas Edison is considered to be the father of the modern tattoo machine. Several patents have come since then, both to improve on the device (minor improvements) and to copyright certain design elements.
The improvements to the tattoo machine also came with Sailor Jerry, who began using better sanitation techniques, and also developing color pigments and needle arrays that are safer for the skin. His sanitations techniques became part of the tattoo machine, with single use needles and tubes being used for each tattoo.
Tattoo machines for sale are all over the place. They can be purchased through e-bay and various tattoo supply companies. The big question is, are you qualified to buy one. While anyone can buy a tattoo machine, most professionals have better access to more custom machines, plus they are qualified to use them. Most scratch artists can buy a tattoo machine, but you also need the skill and knowledge to adjust and fine tune the device.

The Main Parts Of A Tattoo Machine
The tattoo machine is a very basic device. The electric current that is put through the coils causes the armature bar to vibrate. The tube clamp of the machine is where you attach the tube and inserted needle to in order to attach the needle to the armature bar. When the power supply is connected to the machine, it causes the armature bar to vibrate, working the needle kind of like a miniature sewing machine, driving ink into the skin at a fast rate.
The machine is built on electromagnetism, and has been relatively unchanged since it was invented. While design improvements have been made, such as faster coils and different springs, the machine does what it's suppossed to do. In the hands of a professional, this basic device can create a work of art.
Most artists who have been around for a while tend to have their own custom frames. Most of the artists I know who with a custom brass or steel frame, which make the device easier to use with their style due to the weight and feel in their hand.
How To Get Into Tattooing
The art of tattooing is more involved than finding a tattoo machine for sale. In order to produce great work, you must have some degree of artistic talent, and from there you can go forward. Most take some kind of art schooling, or if they are already a proficient artist, they can go and try to find an apprenticeship. The apprenticeship is where you should start looking for your first machine, because it is here that you will learn how to properly tattoo people, and not in your home. There are several fine adjustments that need to be made to every machine, including adjustment to the springs, the armature bar, and even to each new needle and tube you put on the machine. You should always remember, this machine puts a design on someones body that will be there forever.

If you are a professional, there are two types of machines that every artist should have.
- A solid liner- These machiens work well for outline work and coloring small areas. They tend to drive hard, and have a fast, constant rythem in order to make solid line quickly in one stroke. Most artists prefer to have the armature bar adjusted to a short distance and have a softer springs installed.
- A good coloring machine- this is what will be used to fill in the outline and any other colored area. A harder spring is usually prefered, since the longer strokes will sink the ink in deeper, making the color stay better in the skin.
When looking for a tattoo machine for sale, keep in mind that you only get what you pay for, unless you personally know who you are getting it from. There are several options online that offer inferior machines, including many of the "starter kits" and other ebay offers you will find in abundance. You know what you're getting, and you know how to take care of it.
